SELF-DEVELOPMENT OF THE PERSONALITY IN THE COURSE OF ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION
Elets Branch of the Non-State Educational Institution of Higher Education and Professional Training “Russian New University”, Elets, Lipetsk Region

The notion of ecology is broad, it involves the protection of entire environment and control over rational use of natural resources. Nowadays the environment is really being damaged in every way, motor-vehicles pressure on nature and pollutants released by plants and factories taking the leading positions. There are a great many of other aspects that oblige us to prevent the ecological disaster inevitably impending over the earth.

With reference to the increase of nature-protective activities and the necessity of rational use of natural resources, particularly essential becomes such a side of the personal development of a student as education in ecological issues. Ecological education is aimed at forming the attitude towards nature as a social science, which suggests careful actions in respect of resources, flora and fauna. Generally, it is based on the perception of nature as everlasting value and understanding that each person must participate within his powers in the prevention of ecological catastrophes.

Being guided by the humanitarian model of educational processes, which is based on taking into account individual peculiarities of the personality of the educated, the authors put special emphasis on the self-development of the personality of a student, the factor being the major in ecological education.

Self-development is understood by most of the researchers as the highest level of development, though it cannot replace the process of development completely. Self-development is one of the forms of the manifestation of development, conscious and purposeful in kind.

Being a component of professional self-improvement, self-development plays an essential role in the individual professional making of future specialists.

The process of self-development forms a future student’s skills in taking personal responsibility for his life, developing and carrying out his own self-education strategy that could embrace certain peculiarities and ideas of the student and include personal self-prognostication and self-programming as well as working-out of a system of the “rules of life” gradually becoming the principles of conduct and guide-lines for activities of the person.

Taking as a basis the analysis of contemporary literature on the issue and the results of the research conducted among the students of the Elets Branch of NOU VPO “Russian New University”, we pertain to the necessary conditions of the student’s personality self-development:

  1. bringing out the students’ demand for self-developing ecological activities and developing their motivation;
  2. organizational and pedagogical work:
    • developing learner’s materials and training aids, supplied with methodical guide-lines, on the basis of a ‘kompetenz’ approach;
    • arranging the educational process based on the use of developing technologies;
    • making the students active and motivated to self-development during the process of teaching through developing methods and programs, seminars and training practices that encourage self-development activities;
    • provision of necessary material and technical resources.

The conclusion we can arrive at is that the latest trends in the field of higher professional education and the students’ motivation to self-development activities in the field of ecological education make it urgent to develop new educational technologies based on designing personality self-development models in the educational space of higher institutions.
