ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION AT A MEDICAL UNIVERSITY – EXPERIENCE AND PERSPECTIVES |
| Novosibirsk State Medical University, Novosibirsk Surgut State University, Surgut |
Nowadays there is no doubt that ecological education is important both for scientific achievements, solutions of the manufacturing problems and stable development, and for provision the everyday activities. In the entire world developed countries, ecological culture becomes an important part of the whole population culture. Ecological education is one of the main tendencies to develop the educational systems.
A unique experience in creation and realization of educational programs in the field of medical, social and general ecology both for the future physicians and for pharmaceutists, social workers, economists in the sphere of public health and clinical psychologists has been stored in the Novosibirsk State Medical University. This experience is unique because the NSMU is the only medical institution in Russia that has created this system for medical specialties on the basis of State Educational Standards. Educational and scientific activities in the field of ecology were actively and successfully developed at NSMU over 10 years. During this period the principles of medical knowledge ecologizations, formation of the ecological world view of students and doctors have been actively introduced at NSMU.
In 2009 the Ecological Department was organized (the specialty “Bioecology” with the specialization “The Human Ecology”) that has essentially made the existing ecological tendency wider. Moreover, the foundation of a number of new departments in recent years – Pharmaceutical Department, Department of Economics and Management in Public Health, Department of Social Work, and Department of Clinical Psychology was connected with the improvement in teaching not only the human ecology and the most important section of it – medical ecology, but the discipline of general ecological tendency, such as, for example, “the principles of ecology and environment protection”, “the principles of nature use” and also social ecology and others. That’s why the ecological tendency at NSMU covers a wider number of problems in ecologization of the medical disciplines is still topical. That’s why an important role in teaching medical ecology at the Department of General Medicine belongs to integration and definite aspect of knowledge in biology, chemistry, anatomy, histology received by students earlier.
Our aim is not only to give information about different pollutants, the ways of their intake, biotransformation and excretion but also in formation of the whole notion about the interaction of the human organism with the environment. In our point of view, this is very important at the stage of students’ moving from the learning of norms to the questions of pathology.
However, the number of problems has essentially increased, as the aims in teaching ecology are different at other departments. Therefore, the course “The principles of ecology and environment protection” taught to the students of the Pharmaceutical Department contains information about the interaction of organismic and above organismic systems – populations, biosenosis, ecosystems, and biosphere. Important sections for the future pharmaceutists, learning the rules of preparation and keeping herbs in the course of pharmacognosy, are “phitosphere”, “keeping biovariety”, “natural management and environmental protection”. The important thing at the Department of Social Work, Economics and Management in Public Health, Clinical Psychology is getting know the features of interaction of the environment and society, that’s why learning social ecology is a priority among all ecological disciplines.
Thus, ecological education at the medical university is a very perspective tendency, promoting the students’ formation of the whole view on the interaction of an organism with environment.
