PRINCIPLES OF MICRO-EXPERIMENT IN ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION
Donetsk National University, Donetsk, Ukraine

The UNESCO ASSOCIATED CENTRE FOR MICROSCIENCE EXPERIMENTS is established on the base of Donetsk National University (DonNU - www.donnu.edu. ua) in 2006 and is the leading organisation in Ukraine which promotes introduction of microscience equipment and related didactic materials in secondary and higher educational institutions.

The Centre realises its activity in the framework of the UNESCO World-wide Project on Microscience Experiments which is developing more and more actively and involves new countries and continents. Similar Associated Centres are also established in Bashkortostan, Belarus, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Comoros, Estonia, Gabon, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mauritius, Moldova, Russia, SAR and Senegal.

Establishment of the Centre at DonNU was preceded by active cooperation between the University and UNESCO starting from 1997 – the UNESCO Chair in Ecology of a Technogenous Region was established based on the Agreement between UNESCO and the DonNU. One of the main tasks to be realised training of specialists in Ecology, Environmental Protection, Ecological and Technogenous Safety.

In May 2003 two international workshops were organised by the University under UNESCO’s financial support:

“Basic sciences and water” – a workshop dedicated to the role of water in human life in such spheres as chemistry, physics, ecology, medicine, biology. Scientists from Ukraine, Moldova, France, Portugal, the USA and South-African Republic took part in it.

“Microexperiment and DIDAC” – a workshop intended for teachers of chemistry from secondary schools and higher educational institutions. At the workshop the teachers were presented a new equipment for holding experiments at chemistry lessons.

In 2006 Ukrainian version of “Advanced teaching and learning packages: microchemistry experiences” was prepared for publication. An electronic version of the textbook was placed on the UNESCO site www.unesco.org. New textbooks describing experiments in ecology, biology and physics are being translated and prepared for publication.
